Recycling - it's not new!

For hundreds of years, people have collected other peoples unwanted items (or rubbish!) and reused them for themselves, or sold them on.

The twentieth century saw the rise of the 'Rag and Bone' man and his unmistakable tones and bell ringing. More famously, Steptoe and Son roamed the streets of London with their Horse and cart, collecting all manner of unwanted items - and reusing them, or selling them on! Much better than tipping it all in a great big hole in the countryside!

Concern over recycling

Obviously, things have moved on a great deal since then and people are now actively thinking about what actually happens to all their rubbish and are beginning to show concern over how much is, or isn't, recycled.
